Let’s go through your day together
50 minutes class
Focus of this class: talk about time, daily activities and sleeping habits.

START OF THE CLASS
Ask your student “Hello welcome, how are you feeling today? How has your day been so far?” Take note of the answer. Why? Students are usually lazy 😉 they will give you a quick and easy answer. However at the end of the class the same question will have a more detailed and fluent answer. They will get excited and more confident!
WARM UP QUESTIONS
From now on I always write in bold idioms or key vocabulary. These are the words that the students potentially may not know or that instead need to be studied because they are frequently used in this topic. By using these they will sound like true natives 😉
- First of all, are you a morning person or a night person? (Night people are often defined as night owls.)
- When are you the most productive? Day or night?
MORNING
Wake up sleepyhead! Stop hitting snooze!
- Do you often sleep in?
- Are you often late? Or do you make it on time?
- Do you often hit the snooze button?
Vocabulary
set the alarm
the alarm goes off
I wake up – or – I hit the snooze button
- What is the very first thing you do after waking up?
- What are some good habits to have in the morning?
- Is there anything you would like to improve in your morning routine?
- Do you usually grab something to eat or do you eat at home?
DURING THE DAY
Let the students read the following:
“Americans often eat and walk at the same time. They do this when they’re in a hurry. It is not uncommon to see people doing this. Americans will even eat food like hamburgers or slices of pizza while walking. So often Americans will order the food and then walk around while eating.“
- What about you? Would this be strange in your country? Do you usually eat while walking or would you eat at the food stand?
- Do you take naps during the day?
- How would your perfect day look like?
NIGHT
And now it’s time to call it a day and go to sleep…
How is your sleep? Do you have trouble sleeping?
Practice the following vocabulary with your student. How did they sleep last night?
- couldn’t sleep a wink
- toss and turn
- to have a lot on your mind – let me sleep on it
- it’s written all over your face
- my back is killing me
HOMEWORK and/or FINAL EXERCISE
I know, nobody likes homework, however a good exercise would be choosing one of the questions and writing it down. Why? Because by writing down we can see and fix those errors that might seem superficial in the conversation.
