CHILL OUT
50 minutes class

For this class start by showing some relaxing pictures to your students (as the one above), and asking them how they feel about the pictures. Words like “relax” and “no stress” should come out. After collecting your students’ ideas, give them today’s topic!
VOCABULARY
The following terms all refer to becoming calmer, less active, and somehow happier. And we can use them all as synonyms of relax.
to RELAX: often used to refer to physical resting. example: After a long day in the office, I love to relax on the sofa and watch TV. to CHILL OUT (phrasal verb) informal way of saying relax. example: I’m just chilling out in front of the TV. Chill out, Dad. The train doesn’t leave for another hour! to UNWIND: start to relax after working or doing something difficult. example: Music helps me to unwind. I’m just going to watch some TV and unwind. to DE-STRESS: relax by reducing stress or worry. It’s informal. example: I do yoga to de-stress. to RECHARGE YOURSELF – RECHARGE YOUR BATTERIES: to rest so that you can get your energy back. example: I need at least three weeks holiday a year to recharge my batteries. |
CONVERSATION
- What’s the best part of your day? (is it perhaps your relaxing time?)
- Do you feel like you’re getting enough rest and relaxation?
- Do you think people need more relaxing time in their daily life? Or just when they go on vacation or during their days off work?
- Do you take naps during the day?
- What do you do to recharge your batteries? Sport, listening to music and so on.?
- What would your perfect day off look like? Would it be an active day or chill one?
- If you have a stressful day, how do you de-stress?
- What would be your dream vacation?
- Would you recommend spending some time alone to recharge your batteries?
- Have you ever tried yoga or meditation to improve relaxation?
HOMEWORK and/or FINAL EXERCISE
As always, push your students to find at least 5 minutes for their homework. Let them chose one of the questions to write down. Why? Because by writing down the answer we can see and fix those errors that might seem superficial during the conversation.
